(3) The Business Health Audit and Optimization Program -
Designed to survey your business, evaluate its strengths and
weaknesses, and develop a realistic plan of action to adjust to today’s
economy. Short-term immediate savings, long term optimization, and potential new sources of revenue.
WHAT IS OUR BUSINESS HEALTH PROGRAM, AND WHY IS IT ESSENTIAL TO HAVE
ONE COMPLETED IN TODAY’S CHALLENGING ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT.
2011 is currently positioned to be another challenging economic year for
U.S. businesses. The role that business consultants play becomes
paramount to many company's survival, long-term stability, change and
growth over the next 12 to 18 months. Companies must adjust their
business plans, strategy, processes, resource allocations, and 'business
as usual' mentality to compensate for the changing economy and
clients'/customers' outlook.
Capital BCS Consulting understands these challenges, and provides
companies with key business success strategies and expertise that:
reduce business risks, increase efficiency/productivity, and keep
businesses moving forward while their competitors struggle to maintain
status quo (unable or unwilling to recognize the value of investing in
their own company's future). Our Comprehensive Business Health Program
was designed to survey your business, evaluate its strengths and
weaknesses, and develop a realistic plan of action to adjust to today’s
economy and provide long-term stability.
Business and work efforts often fail because those in charge are unaware
or unable to identify the many elements that are preventing the effort
from being successful. Often, businesses are organized around the
owner’s/manager's specific area of expertise, such as marketing,
accounting or production. This specialized expertise is in so much
demand to run the daily operations that it often prevents them from
dedicating enough time to macro management and optimization (reviewing
all areas of the business, developing plans to optimize, and then
implementation). Unfortunately, this is a very common management and
resource issue for businesses, departments and offices in every
industry.
The Comprehensive Business Health Program for Small/Medium Sized Businesses covers the seven critical functions of a business:
- basic planning,
- general bookkeeping and accounting practices,
- financial planning and loan/debt management,
- sales and marketing,
- advertising and promotion,
- personnel, and
- production.
Applied within a Corporate Department or Line of Business setting, the Program covers the following critical areas:
- strategic planning and goal setting,
- reporting and information management,
- budget management and use of resources,
- communications - internal and external,
- success factors specific to the departmental function,
- personnel, and human resources management
- performance, best practices, etc.
In a healthy and financially sound business, these seven functional
areas are in balance. This audit was created using the results of case
studies/reports, evidence gathered, logical procedures identified, and
expert advice from several major U.S. business support organizations
(business institutes, business development centers, etc.).
Not your typical SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats).
Although Capital BCS Consulting based much of this audit's format on the
elements of a solid business SWOT analysis, we did not stop there. The
SWOT analysis itself has been known to contain two clear weaknesses.
First, using SWOT may tend to persuade companies to concentrate on lists
of Pros and Cons, rather than thinking about what needs to be done to
achieve objectives. Second, there is the risk that the resulting lists
will be used uncritically and without clear prioritization. The result
of the
Comprehensive Business Health Program produces a
realistic action plan, along with recommended prioritization – but most
importantly, the program is conducted by an unbiased and objective third
party professional.
HOW THE AUDIT IS CONDUCTED
Step 1: In order to gain maximum effectiveness from this audit,
the business owner/manager (or sometimes a response team) will be asked a
series of questions that address each critical business function with
typically a short answer or a “yes” or “no” response. This meeting can
range between two and four hours, depending on the complexity of the
business and the dynamics of the participants.
Step 2: After completing the questions/answer session, Capital
BCS Consulting systematically reviews the analysis of each section of
the audit to determine the following:
o strengths that may be under-utilized by other areas of the business
o weaknesses that a) represent high business risk,
b) keep the business from reaching its potential, and
c) have not properly adjusted to changes in the economy or customers
o how the gathered information, along with consultant research and experience, can be best used by a
business to directly improve its health (results!).
Step 3: Based on the industry research performed, and responses
provided in Step 1, a second round of questions/interviews follow where
more detailed answers and supporting business documentation (financials,
sales reports, etc.) may be required.
Step 4: A very detailed management report of findings is completed and formally presented to the business owner/manager, which includes:
a) realistic (and prioritized) recommended plan of action
b) recommended updates to both the business plan and marketing plan
c) identified business areas of either high risk or under-utilized opportunity
d) industry and competition research performed
e) list of new marketing opportunities and/or partnerships identified
The final report is to be reviewed together in a
presentation format meeting, with open discussion, questions and answers
welcomed.
